Job summary

City of Georgetown is seeking a full-time Public Information Officer to lead our outreach and public education program. You will be the City’s primary spokesperson and a key liaison between residents and City services.

Under limited supervision, you will support the Mayor and management team, handle FOIA requests, and serve on the Executive Cabinet Team while reporting to the City Administrator.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, public administration or related field.
• Four years of progressive responsibility in public or community relations.
• Excellent writing and communications skills.
• Graphic design, video production, or professional writing experience is a plus.
• Must have a valid SC driver’s license.
• Relevant government experience preferred.
• Must obtain FEMA L105 Public Information Basics certification within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead city outreach and public education programs.
• Serve as City spokesperson for media and community.
• Coordinate with Mayor, management team, and staff on communications.
• Process FOIA requests; assist Municipal Clerk.
• Serve on Executive Cabinet Team and report to the City Administrator.
