Job summary

The City of Mount Holly Planning Department is seeking a part-time Planning Intern for Spring 2027, up to 16 hours per week. The position is in-person in Mount Holly, NC, and runs from January 11 to April 16.

Ideal candidates are juniors or seniors in bachelor programs or master’s students studying planning, geography, public administration, or related fields. Compensation is $14.00-$16.00 per hour, paid biweekly; background check required.

Qualifications

• Junior or senior in a bachelor program or a master’s student studying planning, geography, public administration, or a closely related field.
• Interest in planning, GIS, and related public administration topics.
• Willingness to work up to 16 hours per week and be on-site in Mount Holly, NC.

Responsibilities

• Assist with text amendments and rezonings and event support.
• Perform routine office duties: researching, filing, minutes, proofreading, and compiling GIS datasets.
• Greet customers and provide information while supporting Planning Department projects.
• Gain exposure to Planning, Permitting & Code Enforcement, Administration, and GIS Mapping sections.
