Job summary

The City of Berkeley is seeking an experienced City Manager to strengthen the organization, lead a high-performing leadership team, and manage complex finances in a Council-Manager government. Residency within Berkeley within one year of appointment is required.

Qualifications

Proven management experience supervising teams and leading organizational change.
Expertise in strategic planning, project management, and process improvement.
Understanding of the City Charter and municipal operations.
Knowledge of municipal budgeting and public finance.
Experience with business development and economic growth initiatives.
Strong leadership, public speaking, negotiation, and stakeholder-engagement abilities.
Knowledge of local laws and regulations.
Understanding of human resources management practices and staff development.
Microsoft Office proficiency.
CJIS clearance.
Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Oversee city operations as part of the City Manager role.
Lead the leadership team and build trust with elected officials, employees, residents, and regional partners.
