Job summary

The City of Dover’s Community Services Department seeks a full-time, 40-hour-per-week manual laborer to maintain city buildings, parks, ball fields, and related facilities in the Facilities, Grounds & Cemeteries Division. The role involves heavy labor, seasonal snow work, and operation of basic tools and equipment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and one year of construction/road maintenance or trade experience; a CDL-B with endorsements is preferred. Open until filled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to use simple hand and power tools.
• Experience in construction, road maintenance or trade work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general heavy laboring duties assisting skilled workers (curbstones, trees, cement).
• Maintain parks, ball fields, cemeteries, playgrounds; mow grass; clear weeds and brush.
• Assist in snow removal operations; operate small trucks or plow; attach/detach snow plows and sanders.
• Shovel snow and spread sand or salt on sidewalks and parking areas.
• Load/unload heavy objects from trucks or storage.
• Support in disaster response and weather-related tasks.
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment (mowers, chainsaws, weed whackers).
• Periodically perform traffic control at job sites.
• Operate trucks and motorized equipment as needed.
• Maintain positive working relationships with staff and the public.
• Flexibility to work during winter months.
• Follow safe work procedures; perform other duties as required.
