Job summary

City of Columbia seeks an experienced professional to administer the Engineering Division, directing design, development and implementation of City projects, renovation and installation. The role entails supervising staff, managing budgets and coordinating with multiple agencies to ensure safety and quality.

The incumbent will oversee project planning, contract administration and compliance with applicable laws, reporting to executive-level administration and contributing to long-term city

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or closely related field.
• Eight (8) years of relevant prior experience.
• PE (Professional Engineer) certification in SC; valid SC Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Directs and provides expertise in planning, design and project management of City projects.
• Inspects construction work in progress and at completion for compliance with policies, codes and standards.
• Coordinates projects with local, state and federal agencies and other stakeholders; verifies contractor pay applications and invoices.
• Develops and reviews plans and specifications for compliance with codes, ordinances and standards.
• Represents the department and City at civic meetings; plans and directs activities within policies and safety standards.
