Job summary

City of Columbia is seeking an experienced Engineering Division leader to manage design, development, and implementation of City projects. The role requires directing project management, ensuring compliance with codes and safety standards, and coordinating with multiple agencies and contractors.

You will supervise staff, develop budgets, and oversee procurement and contracts while reporting progress to executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or closely related field.
• Eight (8) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class 'D' Driver's License.
• PE (Professional Engineer) Certified in S.C.
• Knowledge of algebra, analytic geometry, and statistics; financial/econometric modeling.

Responsibilities

• Directs planning, design and project management of City projects—construction, renovation and installation.
• Inspects construction work for compliance with policies, codes, and safety standards.
• Coordinates projects with local, state, federal agencies and other stakeholders; verifies contractor pay applications and invoices.
• Reviews plans and specifications for code compliance.
• Supervises staff; assigns, reviews, and develops personnel; manages budgets and procurement; administers contracts.
