Job summary

The City of Lancaster seeks an experienced City Engineer to lead essential engineering functions including design, capital review, construction inspection, surveying, mapping, and floodplain management.

This role provides technical guidance to the Director of Public Works, directs staff, coordinates with consultants, and oversees major public infrastructure projects from concept to completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; progressive civil engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Reviews development plans for regulatory compliance and city standards.
• Provides leadership to engineering staff and project management.
• Manages floodplain activities and MS4 Stormwater program oversight.
• Directs inspectors and PMs to ensure project conformance and approvals.
• Prepares RFQs/RFPs, negotiates contracts, and manages budgets.
• Prepares plans, costs, and coordination with other city departments.
