Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers and support the selling process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
4. Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
7. Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges via cash or checks and maintain documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
11. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service.
13. Seek additional business opportunities from customers and provide leads to sales.
14. Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
15. Perform duties of road driver or dock employee as operationally necessary.
16. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
17. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• At least one year of recent driving experience or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to perform basic math and count.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of trucks.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Driving in various weather conditions and on all types of roads.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.

*Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. Driving without it is not permitted.
