Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers and support the selling process.

Essential Functions

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractors and/or trailers.
4. Handle freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup or repair damaged freight as necessary.
7. Complete required documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges via cash or checks and maintain documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
11. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Provide internal and external customer service.
13. Request additional business from customers and provide leads to sales.
14. Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
15. Perform duties of road driver or dock employee when operationally necessary.
16. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• At least one year of recent experience or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMCSA regulations.
• Operate long combination vehicles in specified states and meet qualification standards.
• Basic math skills and ability to perform basic calculations.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of trucks.
• Follow instructions and complete training.
• Work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

• Drive in various weather conditions and on all types of roads.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Hazardous Materials endorsement required within 120 days of employment.

Pay and Additional Details

Starting rate of pay: $30.35/hour.
