Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

Essential Functions

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractors and trailers.
4. Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup or repair damaged freight when necessary.
7. Verify and complete documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges and maintain related documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions, communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
11. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Provide internal and external customer service.
13. Request additional business and provide leads for sales opportunities.
14. Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
15. Perform duties of road driver or dock employee as operationally necessary.
16. Adhere to all laws, regulations, and company policies.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• At least one year of recent experience or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to perform basic math and count.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry freight up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of trucks.
• Follow instructions and complete training.
• Work independently or as part of a team.

Working Conditions

• Drive in various weather conditions and on all types of roads.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and DOT-shipped hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer.
