Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

Essential Functions

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
4. Handle freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
7. Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges as required, maintaining documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
11. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Demonstrate customer service skills.
13. Request additional business and provide leads to sales.
14. Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
15. Perform duties of a road driver or dock employee when operationally necessary.
16. Comply with all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

• Possess a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• One (1) year of recent experience or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet all DOT regulatory requirements.
• Ability to perform basic math and count.
• Basic communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, and perform physical movements like bending, twisting, climbing.
• Follow instructions and complete training.
• Work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

• Drive in all weather conditions and on various roads.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and DOT-regulated hazardous materials.
• Work hours may vary.
• Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment.
