City Dispatcher – CDL Drivers (Part Time)

About the Role

The City Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the daily operations of CDL drivers within the city and surrounding service areas. This role ensures efficient route planning, timely deliveries and pickups, compliance with DOT regulations, and effective communication between drivers, customers, and management. The City Dispatcher plays a key role in maintaining service quality, operational efficiency, and driver safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Schedule and dispatch CDL drivers for local pickup and delivery assignments.
  • Monitor driver routes and activities to ensure on-time performance and efficient operations.
  • Communicate daily assignments, route changes, and customer instructions to drivers.
  • Track shipments and provide status updates to customers and management.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), FMCSA, and company safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records, driver logs, and transportation documentation.
  • Coordinate equipment availability, maintenance schedules, and vehicle assignments.
  • Respond promptly to delivery issues, traffic delays, accidents, and service disruptions.
  • Work closely with warehouse personnel, customers, and management to resolve operational concerns.
  • Monitor driver hours of service and assist with scheduling to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with freight planning, load optimization, and route efficiency improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support transportation operations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by phone, radio, and email.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Office environment with frequent communication with drivers and customers.
