Job summary

CornerStone Staffing seeks an experienced Controller in Texas to lead accounting and finance functions within a government-focused environment. You will oversee the general ledger, close processes, audit coordination, and grant administration while developing staff and strengthening internal controls.

The role requires extensive knowledge of GAAP and GASB, plus demonstrated leadership in budgeting, reporting, and compliance. On-site work with a comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field with substantial accounting coursework.
• Demonstrated experience in local government accounting and fund accounting.
• Experience with GAAP and GASB standards and annual audits.
• CPA or CGFO preferred; CGFO certification can be pursued within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Direct accounting and general ledger functions including fund, cash, investment, capital assets and debt accounting.
• Lead monthly and annual close processes with reconciliations, journal entries, fund balances and variances.
• Prepare annual financial statements and reports per GAAP and GASB.
• Serve as primary accounting lead for the annual external audit; coordinate schedules and findings.
• Supervise and develop accounting staff; establish priorities and cross-training.
• Design and test internal controls over receipts, disbursements, payroll and financial systems.
• Oversee AP, payroll, AR, and related accounting functions with risk review.
• Manage financial software configuration, data integrity, upgrades, and interfaces.
• Oversee grant administration budgets, tracking, reconciliation and reporting.
• Lead development of five-year capital plan and future operating impacts.
• Support operating and capital budgets with financial results and forecasts.
• Advise departments on accounting treatment and reporting requirements.
