Job summary

City of Albuquerque is seeking an experienced administrator to lead animal welfare policy and coordination across City Departments, the City Council, the Mayor, and county partners. The role focuses on monitoring budgets, capital programs, and departmental initiatives to improve animal welfare outcomes.

The incumbent will guide program evaluations, propose ordinances, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement effective welfare improvements and respond to constituent concerns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Public Administration or related field; and
• Seven years of managerial experience in animal sheltering, public affairs, or municipal government.

Responsibilities

• Develop appropriate animal welfare policy and initiatives to reduce euthanasia and increase adoptions.
• Monitor program success measures and develop new ones as needed.
• Develop and implement action plans to address identified policy problems.
• Review welfare approaches for domestic animals and wildlife and propose improvements.
• Assist in developing proposed ordinances, legislation, orders and rules and assist in implementation.
• Collaborate with animal advocacy groups and stakeholders on welfare issues.
• Oversee capital projects and facility maintenance.
