Job summary

American University in Washington, DC seeks a Circulation Manager for the Pence Law Library to oversee daily access-services operations and senior on-site coverage during evenings and weekends.

You will supervise part-time staff, manage circulation desk workflows, and support interlibrary loan and reserves while using library systems and social-media outreach to enhance patron experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience in library services, higher education, or customer service operations.
• Experience training employees, coordinating workflows, or leading shifts is required.
• Experience using Ex Libris Alma, interlibrary loan systems, or course reserves is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily circulation desk operations and provide direct desk coverage, including opening/closing responsibilities.
• Supervise assigned part-time staff and provide training, scheduling, and performance feedback.
• Process interlibrary loan and course reserves; monitor requests and ensure timely materials handling.
• Maintain patron accounts, system records, and resolve routine issues within delegated authority.
• Develop outreach content for social media and library communications to engage students.
