Job summary

  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or comparable image-editing software preferred.

Job Summary

The Circulation and Reference Librarian coordinates all circulation activities and provides reference services to students, faculty, and other Wolfsonian patrons. This position is the welcoming face of the library, ensuring that all patron needs are met and addressed efficiently and effectively, while managing the flow of library resources and maintenance of reading rooms.

  • Determine, implement, and review circulation policies and procedures. Manage and maintain the fulfillment components of the library services platform, including item requests, patron profiles, and related functions.
  • Provide training to library staff and patrons in the use of library systems and the library's online public access catalog.
  • Oversee the check-in and checkout of library materials and follow up on overdue items. Maintain reserve shelves for staff and patrons.
  • Perform temporary location changes and ensure materials are returned to their permanent locations. Print barcode slips for library materials.
  • Handle inquiries related to reference including searching for books in the catalog, accessing books on the shelves, and retrieving information for patrons. Assist library patrons in the use of library computers, technology, services, and resources including online databases.
  • Schedule research appointments. Perform reference interviews with visiting scholars and provide instruction for use and handling of materials.
  • Operate book scanner in response to scanning requests from researchers and staff.
  • Participate in public outreach, including tours, presentations, blog posts, and/or other means of communicating with the public about the library's collection. Manage and maintain organization of public spaces, including the reference desk and reading room. Collect statistics related to visitors and use of the physical collection for research and programs.
  • Perform bibliographic data entry and create item records (accession and cataloging). Assist with the processing, maintenance, and arrangement of collections, including shelving, inventory, weeding, and other collection management tasks as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline and five (5) years' experience in related field or Master's degree and three (3) years' experience in related field.

  • Experience in the careful handling of rare, fragile, or special collections materials.
  • Working knowledge of digitization equipment, imaging standards, and digital workflows.
