Job summary

Ingham County in Michigan is seeking a Circuit Court Clerk for the Clerk’s Office to process Circuit Court cases, assist attorneys and the public, and manage court records across multiple electronic systems.

Role involves opening/closing cases, entering information, assessing filings for acceptability, and handling record transfers and subpoenas. A two-year related experience and an Associate’s Degree in a related field are required, with notary commission being a plus.

Qualifications

• Two years of progressively more responsible or expansive experience in a court clerk, court, law firm, or related field is required.
• An Associate’s Degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, criminal justice or a related field or advanced training such as that acquired in the first two or three years of college/university, technical school, or business school is required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries at the counters, on the telephone, by email, or by other communication mediums and directs people to proper locations.
• Opens and closes various case types, enters case information, and maintains records and dockets across multiple case management systems.
• Programs costs, fines, and fees into the case management system and receipts them by various payment methods.
• Conducts record searches and compiles data from records in response to inquiries and forwards to appropriate agencies.
• Performs data entry with accuracy, investigates errors, and coordinates urgent matters as needed.
• Prepares and issues copies of court records and documents and handles subpoenas as required.
• Trains new or current employees and adapts trainings to changing laws and policies.
