Job summary

University of California San Diego is seeking a Staff Research Associate 1 to support chromatin dynamics and gene expression studies. The role involves PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, sequencing, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and bioinformatic analysis, with opportunities to supervise undergraduate staff.

You will work with mammalian cell culture, perform CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, and engage in RNA-seq/ATAC-seq workflows, contributing to manuscript preparation and dissemination.

Qualifications

• Theoretical understanding of cell and molecular biology; BS in biochemistry or molecular biology OR an equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience.
• Experience with the following molecular biology techniques: PCR, RNA and DNA isolation and sequencing, gel electrophoresis, column chromatography, DNA cloning, growth and transformation of bacteria, etc.
• Ability to perform mammalian cell culture.
• Ability to perform gene editing by using CRISPR-Cas9 and related techniques.
• Ability to perform genome-wide analyses such as RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and ChIP-seq.
• Ability to perform computational analysis of genome-wide data and other datasets by using bioinformatic tools such as R.

Responsibilities

• Assist Principal Investigator (PI) in research on chromatin dynamics and gene expression using PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, sequencing, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and bioinformatic analysis.
• Work with mammalian cell culture and gene editing techniques (CRISPR-Cas9); participate in genome-wide analyses (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq).
• Provide work direction to undergraduate employees and maintain lab areas and waste disposal.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation and publication of research findings.
