Job summary

City Union Mission in Kansas City, MO seeks dedicated Shelter Attendant(s) to support men, women and families in crisis at the City Union Mission campuses. You will help manage daily shelter operations, meals, safety, and front entrance monitoring while modeling community leadership and provision of dignity to those served.

The role requires genuine faith in Jesus Christ, church membership, sobriety, and a heart for serving the homeless.

Qualifications

• Belief in the Lord Jesus Christ with ability to share the Gospel when opportunities arise.
• Church membership in good standing of a Protestant evangelical church.
• Commitment to serving the poor and homeless as per City Union Mission's mission statement.
• Sobriety and freedom from substances that could impair ministry.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate mealtime and fellowship environments and model servant leadership.
• Own shift operations including safety, cleanliness, task completion, and center flow.
• Conduct routine rounds, safety checks, and front entrance monitoring with situational awareness.
• Respond to incidents with calm, clarity and appropriate escalation; de-escalate crises as needed.
• Manage real-time capacity and occupancy; ensure beds are used appropriately and census is accurate.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in personal and shared spaces; reflect responsibility and dignity.
• Supervise hygiene, shower and laundry routines; teach life skills and structure.
