Job summary

Vulcan Metals Corporation in Atchison, KS is seeking a Pattern Maker to support the pattern shop and production schedules. You will produce and repair patterns for steel castings, following drawings and customer requirements.

The role requires 1–2 years carpentry/woodworking, high school diploma, and ability to wear a respirator. First shift with pay range shown; benefits include health coverage, retirement plan, and tuition assistance.

Qualifications

• Must be medically qualified, fit-tested, and able to wear a respirator in accordance with applicable safety regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create patterns for steel castings.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and CNC machines, to shape and finish patterns.
• Work with materials such as wood, metal, and plastic to construct patterns that meet dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and foundry personnel to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Modify existing patterns or develop new patterns to support production requirements and product improvements.
• Inspect patterns for defects and ensure quality before releasing to casting production.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to safety guidelines.

Position Overview

As a Pattern Maker based in Atchison, KS you will support production by producingand repairing patterns in the pattern shop to achieve foundry production schedulesas well as satisfying customer delivery requirements. You will work to the daily production schedule for the pattern shop to ensure patterns produced or worked on comply with quality and customer requirements.

SHIFT: 1st
PAY: $25.73 - $28.58

Essential Duties

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create patterns for steel castings.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, to shape and finish patterns.
• Work with various materials, such as wood, metal, and plastic, to construct patterns that meet dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and foundry personnel to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Modify existing patterns or develop new patterns as needed to support production requirements and product improvements.
• Inspect patterns for defects and ensure they meet quality standards before releasing them for casting production.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and always adhere to safety guidelines and procedures.
• Report Maintenance work required to Supervisors
• Provide accurate and timely data regarding pattern procurement.
• Identify and report production problems
• Ensure records, reports and necessary documentation are maintained
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Must be medically qualified, fit-tested, and able to wear a respirator in accordance with applicable safety regulations and company policies.

Experience:

• 1-2 years trade background- Carpentry/Woodworking preferred
• 1-2 years using carpentry/woodworking tools

• Good written and verbal communication
