Implements the Hopkins preschool philosophy, policies, and procedures, utilizing our Reggio-Emilia Inspired approach.Provide instruction in Mandarin Chinese, with a focus on foundational language skills for preschool-level students.Plans, prepares and leads developmentally appropriate learning activities and special events, with a focus on learning about Chinese culture and building Mandarin Chinese language skills.Observes, documents and reports individual needs, developmental progress, and specific goals for each child.Keeps appropriate records and provides timely progress reports.Maintains frequent written and oral communication with parents regarding their child’s growth and development, interests, changes in behavior, and classroom activities; provides resources and referral information when appropriate.Maintains a clean and safe classroom.Maintains accurate attendance records, emergency drills, and any other organizational forms as needed.Gives attention to each student according to their needs and abilities while maintaining supervision and intervening for safety in a timely and appropriate manner.Coordinates the work of paraprofessionals and volunteers in the classroom.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and school routines in order to achieve an effective, welcoming and inclusive learning atmospherePromotes a positive image of the program by maintaining open and positive communication between the sites, school staff, parents, and community.Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.Other duties may be reasonably assigned by the administrator for effective school operation.Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.One (1) year of paid experience working with children.OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.ECE teaching license or equivalentDriver’s license.First Aid / CPR CertificationFluency in written and spoken Mandarin ChineseUnderstanding of Reggio-Emilia educational philosophy or a willingness to learnDistrict policies and procedures.Classroom policies and procedures.Local community resources, regional community services programs, and regional training programs.Computer applications related to the work.Business English proficiency, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.Planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of classroom staff.Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.Maintaining order when supervising children, while expressing warmth and friendliness.Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software.Communicating effectively verbally and in writing in both English and Mandarin Chinese.Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.Commitment to the District mission, which is to ensure high quality, innovative, challenging education where all learners are valued and respected.Performing assigned responsibilities in a manner consistent with the District’s established Core Values.Advancing the District’s mission and values through careful attention to the key issues of Learning, Environment, and Resources.At Hopkins Public Schools, we believe that our strength lies in the diversity of our students, staff, and community. QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.
- One (1) year of paid experience working with children.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
- ECE teaching license or equivalent
- Driver’s license.
- First Aid / CPR Certification
