Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience operating and maintaining chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, or similar mechanical equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical systems, and industrial controls.
  • Ability to read gauges, meters, equipment manuals, and technical drawings.
  • Basic troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions. Strong attention to safety and detail.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, air compressors, and other related plant equipment.
  • Monitor BAS, control systems, gauges, meters, and alarms.
  • Perform routine inspections to identify equipment issues, leaks, noises, vibrations, or other concerns.
  • Adjust equipment controls to maintain temperatures, pressures, flow rates, and efficiency.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on plant equipment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of readings, inspections, maintenance, and issues.
  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, and system failures promptly.
  • Troubleshoot issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Monitor water treatment systems and chemical levels.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Assist with shutdowns, startups, and major maintenance projects.
  • Communicate equipment conditions to supervisors and maintenance staff.

Job description

The Chiller Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the facility’s central chiller plant and associated equipment. This position monitors equipment performance, performs routine maintenance, responds to alarms and operational issues, and maintains accurate operating records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, air compressors, and other related plant equipment.
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS), control systems, gauges, meters, and alarms.
  • Perform routine inspections to identify equipment issues, leaks, unusual noises, vibrations, or other operational concerns.
  • Adjust equipment controls to maintain proper temperatures, pressures, flow rates, and operating efficiency.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on chiller plant equipment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of equipment readings, inspections, maintenance activities, and operational issues.
  • Respond to equipment alarms, emergencies, and system failures in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and coordinate repairs when necessary.
  • Monitor water treatment systems and chemical levels associated with cooling and heating systems.
  • Follow all company policies and applicable safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Assist with equipment shutdowns, startups, seasonal changeovers, and major maintenance projects.
  • Communicate equipment conditions and operational concerns to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

May include evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, and rotating shifts, depending on facility operational requirements.
