Job summary

SolveNow Inc. is seeking a skilled Utility Plant Operator for the night shift to operate and maintain a central utility plant, perform preventive maintenance, monitor systems, and ensure safe, compliant operations.

The role requires hands-on experience with water/wastewater or utility plants, a valid driveror license, and strong communication. Training on CMMS, PLCs and SCADA is provided to support plant performance and safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants or utility plants.
  • Ability to demonstrate independent decision-making and judgment in the performance of all duties.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a valid driver9;s license.

Responsibilities

  • Reads gauges and meters; starts/stops equipment; controls flow and sets chemical dosage and flow rates.

  • Attends safety and process control trainings; supports operational decisions in supervisionree absence.

Job description

Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a central utility plant, including maintenance of equipment, quality control/testing, and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift. This position typically holds, or is working towards, a universal refrigerant-processing certificate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses operating problems; directs and performs necessary corrective action during work shift.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on Central Utility Plant and/or Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant systems to ensure the integrity and reliability of the utility distribution and/or treatment systems.
  • Reads gauges and meters; starts and stops equipment; operates valves to route and control flow; makes process control adjustments; determines and sets proper chemical dosage and flow rates; and operates PLCs and SCADA systems.
  • Complies with and reports non-compliance with OMI and project policies and procedures.
  • Prepares required reports and maintains complete record-keeping procedures.
  • Monitors, utilizes, and modifies the CMMS system to ensure maximum effectiveness; provides required and appropriate documentation.
  • Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses on water treatment, industrial discharges, plant influent, processes, effluent, and biosolids.
  • Attends and conducts meetings and training sessions pertaining to safety, process control, etc.
  • Makes operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel.
  • Informs supervision of needs and/or changes required to keep operations in a safe and well-maintained condition.
  • Maintains discipline and ensures proper procedures are followed.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of experience in either of the following:
  • Operating water/wastewater treatment plants
  • Utility mechanic, stationary engineer, refrigeration mechanic
  • The ability to demonstrate advanced skills in the field of plant operations.
  • Independent decision-making and judgment in the performance of all duties.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of previous Utility Plant experience with familiarity of the principles and practices of Utility Plant operations; operating principles of chillers, compressors, cooling towers, building management systems, water distribution systems, emergency generators and fire pumps, water treatment programs, valves, pumps, and motors; safe work practices
  • 3-5 years of previous Water/Waste Treatment Plant experience familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations, operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, CMMS, and data management systems, and the ability to operate plant PLCs and SCADA systems
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Schedule: Night shift, Wednesday - Saturday: 8:00pm - 6:30am.

The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements, and have fine coordination to work on equipment; have vision sufficient to service equipment; and have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In a 10‑hour shift, one must be able to transport oneself across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
