Job summary

Mesa Energy Systems, Inc. in San Leandro, CA is seeking an experienced journeyman HVAC technician focused on large-tonnage chillers and central plant equipment.

You will maintain, repair, test, start-up, and commission chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and controls, while coordinating maintenance schedules and safety compliance. This on-site role requires on-call availability, EPA certification, and strong communication with customers, vendors, and the Chiller Field Supervisor.

Qualifications

• 5 years journeyman-level and technical schooling experience.
• Commercial/Industrial air conditioning experience required.
• Chiller, HVAC and Central Plants knowledge.
• EPA certified.
• Valid driver’s license.
• On-call emergency availability.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair central plant equipment, chillers 100 tons and larger, motors, pumps, valves, controls, cooling towers, vane axial fans, and other auxiliary equipment.
• Overhaul of centrifugal chillers a plus.
• Familiar with rigging and supporting office repairs from delivery to completion.
• Availability for emergency service calls on‑call through rotation.
• End-to-end testing, programming, start-ups and commissioning.
• Schedule and manage site-wide maintenance, troubleshooting and repair duties for chillers, cooling towers and central plant equipment.
• Perform daily and monthly preventative maintenance on all equipment.
• Ensure completion of maintenance within the scheduled month and time frame.
• Maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors and co-workers.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting, repair and maintenance on-site.
• Attend monthly safety meetings and ensure policy compliance.
• Work with Chiller Field Supervisor on new and existing customer opportunities or issues.

• Work directly with the Chiller Field Supervisor on new and existing customer opportunities or issues.

Qualifications

• 5 years of work experience at the journeyman level and technical schooling.
• Commercial/Industrial air conditioning experience required.
• Knowledge of Chiller, HVAC, and Central Plants.
• HVAC large tonnage field knowledge is required.
• Must be available for emergency service calls “on call” through normal rotation.
• EPA certified.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Compensation Range: $40 - $90 per hour The hourly rate is determined by the CBA/rate sheet and test results.
