Job summary

UAB seeks a Central Plant Operator to manage chilled water systems across campus and hospital facilities. You will monitor performance, inspect equipment, and coordinate with contractors to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance.

The role requires several years of HVAC experience, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to work a rotating schedule including emergencies. This is a full-time, on-site position at the University.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years of HVAC experience required.
• Graduation from an accredited vocational school in HVAC is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Operate reciprocating and centrifugal chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and related systems using computerized monitoring and energy management systems.
• Inspect equipment and record operating data including temperatures, pressures, flow rates, chemical levels, refrigerants, and oil levels.
• Inspect, test, calibrate, and maintain control systems including sensors, relays, control panels, and transmitters.
