Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Central Plant Operator to maintain, operate, test and monitor reciprocating and centrifugal chillers and related equipment located in the Central Plants and other campus facilities.

You will perform maintenance and monitor performance, adjust water treatment, calibrate instrumentation and operate monitoring systems with a rotation of shifts onsite to ensure reliable cooling across campus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, operates, tests and monitors chillers and related equipment in central plants and campus facilities.
• Monitors system performance, records temperatures, pressures, levels and other data.
• Inspects and adjusts chillers and components based on test data.
• Tests and adjusts water treatment and chemical feed rates.
• Inspects, calibrates and maintains monitoring instrumentation and control components.
• Performs repairs, replacements and installations of equipment as needed.
