Job summary

The University of Colorado Boulder’s Utility and Energy Services invites applications for a Utility Plant Operator. The role operates District Energy Plant and Satellite Plant systems for heating, cooling, and power generation, monitors DIST systems, and trains lower-level operators.

This is shift work with evenings, weekends, and holidays; 14–16 days per month; salary around $73,000 per year with potential increases after certifications and shift differentials; relocation assistance available.

Qualifications

• 4 years experience in District Energy or Central Plant operations.
• At least 1 year hands-on in any two of: Electrical Generation/Distribution, Steam Generation/Distribution, Chilled Water Generation/Distribution, or CHP/Power systems.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
• Substitution via apprenticeship or formal training may count year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Operate Heating, Cooling and Power Generation Equipment safeguarding campus utilities.
• Monitor plant parameters, perform water chemistry adjustments and follow permits and procedures.
• Oversee DIST load management including 15kV microgrid, CHW loop, and steam distribution.
• Perform troubleshooting and basic preventive maintenance.
• Administer LOTO and security for plant operations.
