Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a motivated Childwatch Counselor to provide a safe, engaging space for children while families participate in YMCA programs. You will supervise, implement activities, and help create a welcoming experience consistent with YMCA values.

Responsibilities include enforcing safety procedures, supporting positive behavior, and coordinating with staff. Part‑time schedules are available, with shifts across mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• 6 months of experience working with youth in childcare, church, school, or equivalent.
• Must pass CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
• Ability to engage with children positively and create respectful learning environments.
• Pass a local/state background and FBI fingerprinting check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children in a safe, welcoming environment and monitor activities per YMCA policies.
• Implement age-appropriate activities and encourage positive social interactions.
• Follow health and safety protocols and maintain clean, organized spaces.
• Report concerns to Childwatch Lead or Program Director promptly.
• Maintain attendance records and assist with program documentation.
• Lead by example and model YMCA five core values.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Check children in and out using designated software.
• Ensure secure access and monitor high-risk areas.
