Job summary

The Woodbury Public Library's Central Valley Branch is seeking a creative and nurturing Children’s Library Assistant to support services and programs for children in grades K–5. The role emphasizes customer service, engaging programming, and building connections with families, schools, and the community.

Responsibilities include planning and leading children's programs, assisting with Summer Reading, maintaining welcoming spaces, and preparing reports and displays.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience working with children.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfort using technology and managing multiple responsibilities in a busy public-service environment.
• Must qualify for appointment as an Orange County Civil Service Library Assistant (Children’sServices).

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, responsive, and excellent customer service to children and families.
• Assist with planning, promoting, and leading children’s programs and special events.
• Support Summer Reading and other high-volume library programs and activities.
• Assist with circulation and help maintain welcoming, organized, and engaging children’s spaces.
• Prepare monthly written and statistical reports.
• Create engaging and age-appropriate book displays and other promotional materials.
• Develop and provide community outreach services, with an emphasis on strengthening the Library’s connections with local schools and community organizations.
• Work collaboratively with library staff while also demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently.
