Job summary

The Vernon Public Library is seeking a part-time Children’s Program Assistant to support literacy and development through engaging programs for kids and families. You will assist in planning, presenting, and evaluating activities such as story times, crafts, STEAM programs, and seasonal events, while coordinating supplies.

A welcoming, orderly environment and strong customer service are essential, with evening and weekend shifts included.

Qualifications

Must enjoy working with and demonstrate respect for children.
Must have knowledge of children’s literature and be able to present to an audience.
Must possess excellent customer service and strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the Head of Children’s Librarian to plan, prepare, present, and evaluate children’s programs.
Plans, conducts, and assists with programming for children, including story times, crafts, and STEAM activities.
Designs and assists with programs supporting literacy, learning, and development for children.
Purchases and organizes supplies for children’s programs and activities.
Sets up and cleans up spaces before and after programs and events.
Tracks program attendance and assists in evaluating participation and success.
Assists with outreach programs for the Vernon community.
Creates signs and promotional materials for Children’s Library programs.
