Children’s Ministry Director Job Description
The Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for the overall vision, administration, and execution of programs designed to guide children (typically kindergarten through 5th grade) into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This role focuses on gospel-centered teaching, partnering with parents in family discipleship, and creating a safe, welcoming environment for young children and their families.
Candidates for the position of Children’s Director shall be interviewed and recommended by consensus to the Church by the Children’s Committee, Personnel Committee, and the Pastor. The Children’s Director shall be called by a 2/3 majority vote of the membership present and voting by signed ballot.
He/she is to be a mature Christian of good report who shall be required to subscribe to the doctrinal statement and By-laws of the Church, being in agreement with the policies as therein stated.
The Children’s Director shall serve on an indefinite call at the will of the Church. One month’s written notice shall be given by either party prior to termination.

Core Responsibilities
- Vision & Program Leadership
- Design and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy that aligns with the church's overall mission and Baptist doctrine.
- Select, review, and organize theologically sound, age-appropriate curriculum for weekly programs (e.g., Lifeway, AWANA, Gospel Project).
- Plan And Direct Regular Weekly Environments, Including:
- Sunday Morning Sunday School & Children’s Church
- Midweek Ministries (e.g., AWANA, Royal Ambassadors/Girls in Action, Discipleship Groups)
- Assist with planning, organization and execution of major annual outreach events and seasonal programming, such as Vacation Bible School (VBS), summer camps, Easter/Fall festivals, and family retreats.
- Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Care:
- Recruit, vet, and train adult and student volunteers to serve across all age divisions.
- Conduct ongoing safety, child protection, and curriculum training for all workers.
- Build a supportive leadership team and ensure volunteers are appreciated, mentored, and supported.
- Safety & Operations:
- Enforce check-in/check-out procedures, and child safety protocols (e.g., background checks and safety policies).
- Manage and account for the annual Children’s Ministry budget, ordering necessary equipment, teaching aids, and supplies.
- Maintain clean, organized, safe, and engaging physical learning spaces.
- Parent Partnership & Pastoral Care:
- Equip and encourage parents as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes through resources, newsletters, and classes.
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding upcoming events, lesson summaries, and volunteer needs.
- Provide pastoral care, guidance, and prayer for children and their families during key life moments or crises.
- Counsel children who express interest in salvation and baptism in partnership with pastoral leadership.
- Evaluation Policy:
- Upon employment the Children’s Director shall sign for and receive a written job description.
- The Children’s Director shall be evaluated quarterly for his/her first year. After the first year, evaluations shall be done once a year and shall be completed by the anniversary date of his/her employment.
- The Personnel Committee and Deacons shall be responsible for the annual evaluation of the Children’s Director and the Personnel Committee shall review the evaluation with the Pastor.
- If some area of the Children’s Director’s service is found to be unsatisfactory, the matter shall be re-evaluated in six months. If the matter is resolved, scheduled annual reviews shall resume; if there is failure to resolve the unsatisfactory situation, the matter shall be referred to the congregation for consideration of further action.
