Job description

At Lake Country School, everything we do exists to protect and strengthen the relationship between a Guide and a child. As a Children's House Co-Guide, you share that relationship directly: partnering with another Co-Guide to prepare an authentic Montessori environment, observe and know each child, and give the precise, engaging presentations that let a child's independence and concentration grow.

In this role, you will co-teach a Children's House classroom alongside the other Co-Guide, sharing responsibility for the prepared environment, presentations, observation and record keeping, and the daily rhythm of the room. You will give Montessori presentations and know each child well enough to adjust the environment to what they need next.

If you are a trained Montessorian who finds real satisfaction in partnership rather than running a room alone, who leads through calm, consistent authority rather than control, and who is genuinely energized by observation and the slow, specific work of watching a child become more independent, we would love to hear from you.

About Lake Country School

Lake Country School is a Montessori community serving students from toddler through eighth grade, with campuses in the Twin Cities and at our Land School. We are committed to authentic Montessori practice, a collaborative faculty and staff culture, strong family partnership, and a school community that reflects and welcomes a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

The Role

This full-time, exempt position shares responsibility for a Children's House classroom in partnership with another Co-Guide. The Co-Guide helps prepare and maintain the classroom environment, gives Montessori presentations, observes and records each child's progress, and communicates with families, in coordination with the Children's House Director.

What You Will Do
Prepare the Environment and Teach
  • Help prepare and maintain a classroom environment that is complete, orderly, and inclusive of all learning abilities.
  • Give effective, precise, and engaging Montessori presentations.
  • Plan lessons on an ongoing basis, reflecting the individual needs of each child.
Observe and Individualize
  • Practice consistent observation and record keeping in Transparent Classroom, and use what you learn to adjust the environment for each child.
Guide with Calm Authority
  • Communicate expectations directly and consistently through Grace and Courtesy lessons.
  • Model positive interactions and a healthy social-emotional learning environment.
  • Protect the uninterrupted work period.
Partner with Families and the School Community
  • Communicate with families promptly and effectively, including on time-sensitive observations and concerns.
  • Offer engaging Parent/Teacher Conferences and write high-quality year-end student reports.
  • Participate in Children's House Level meetings, All Staff meetings, and a staff committee.
What We Are Looking For
  • Montessori teaching credential at the primary/Children's House level (AMI or AMS), or actively enrolled with completion expected within an agreed timeframe.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with children ages 2.5 to 6 in a Montessori environment.
  • Eligibility for a Minnesota DHS background study clearance.
  • Comfort co-teaching: sharing lesson responsibility, classroom authority, and daily decisions with a Co-Guide.
Why Lake Country School
  • A collaborative, mission-driven faculty and staff culture.
  • A dual-campus Montessori community rooted in the Twin Cities and the Land School.
  • Deep, sustained relationships with children across a multi-year classroom cycle.
  • Robust professional development, sponsorship and training, and travel and study grant opportunities.
  • Free before- and after-school care for staff children.

$46,000 - $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience and credentials.
