Start your career in public service. The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS), is seeking candidates for the position of Social Services Technician 1. This position is located in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

This position has a designated special entry salary and is non-negotiable.
Under direct supervision, provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families. Conducts patient/client/consumer intakes, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assists clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, financial assistance, and other referral services.
- Completes client intakes based on interviews with clients and their families, significant others, and appropriate community agencies.
- Counsels clients living in group homes and halfway houses; assists in pre-release and release planning.
- Implements life skills workshops and programs in behavior management, youth services, community, and social services.
- Maintains contact with other social service agencies and healthcare providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients' overall progress.
- Maintains program statistics.
- Monitors clients' progress towards treatment goals.
- Organizes the delivery of specific social services in the community.
- Prepares intake reports and case history records.
- Provides crisis intervention and emergency shelter services.
- Ensures database information is maintained on case intake and dispositions.
- Provides short-term case management and referral services to clients with emergency situations.
- Routinely enters data into automated systems to add or update member records.
Core Competencies:
- Strong knowledge and experience of Division of Family and Children Services programs and processes.
- DFCS social services system knowledge (SHINES).
- Highly organized and self-motivated.
- Ability to provide transportation and evidence of a valid driver’s license for required travel throughout the state.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED AND one (1) year of experience in a social services-related position.
- OR two (2) years at an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in a social services-related field.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience:
- Prior experience working in a child welfare-related field.
- Experience using DFCS social services system SHINES.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license for work-related travel.
