Job summary

Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Family Well-Being & Protection, seeks a Social Work Case Manager Specialist in Cedar Rapids, Ottumwa, or Iowa City. The role is full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM with pre-approved overtime as needed.

Primary duties involve working with families affected by child abuse or neglect, creating safety plans, and sometimes removing children when necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of full-time social work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work with 2 years of full-time social work experience.
• Master’s degree in social work.
• Equivalent combination of graduate education in behavioral sciences and qualifying experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess ongoing risk to children and develop safety plans.
• Interact with law enforcement, medical/mental health partners, and schools.
• Apply Iowa Code and agency policy to complex crises.
• Conduct home visits, interviews, and thorough documentation.
• Troubleshoot crises and propose innovative solutions to leadership.
• Maintain confidentiality and prioritize safety in the office.
• Read and interpret data from various sources to inform decisions.
• Collaborate in a team environment to manage processes.
