POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Child Watch Attendant at Kewanee YMCA intentionally fosters safe and well-maintained work areas, while also managing high-quality, member-focused youth programs and activities.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interprets YMCA policies and procedures in a positive manner. Ensure all program participants are provided a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Responds to all member, participant, and community inquiries and complaints within one business day.
  • Ensures all program participants and families adhere to safety practices involving the summer programs.
  • Manages program curriculum to give all youth involved a positive and productive experience.
  • Uphold and promote risk management policies and practices through regular, documented training and evaluation within the department.
  • Initiates the values and character development initiatives.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations. Represents the YMCA in community.
  • Will be expected to perform hands-on duties based on the activities planned by Camp Coordinator.
  • Continues professional development as recommended by the YMCA of the USA and supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for supervising assigned program participants. Being a primary responder in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications

One year of supervisory experience preferred.

Current CPR, AED, First Aid for infant, child, and adult. ARC preferred.

Minimum age of 16.

Within 30 days of hire, completion of Bloodborne Pathogens and Harassment training.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally loud.
