Job summary

Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is hiring for part-time positions as part of the expansion of our West Essex YMCA, opening December 2026. This role focuses on supervising children, promoting positive guidance, and engaging with families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience working with children is preferred.
• Moderate knowledge of the ages and stages of children.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to understand positive guidance and reinforcement techniques.
• Ability to react to emergency situations calmly and professionally.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children in the Child Watch room and other areas.
• Redirect children using positive reinforcement.
• Engage with and welcome every child.
• Engage with parents in a positive and respectful manner.
• Ensure children are dismissed to the designated parent/guardian.
• Arrive early and stay until end of shift as requested.
• Clean and maintain the Child Watch area.
• Attend open houses, program activities, and staff trainings.
