Job summary

Metro YMCAs is seeking a part-time Child Watch Associate at West Essex YMCA to supervise children, engage with families, and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.

In this role you will greet children and parents, enforce positive guidance, monitor for safety, and ensure proper sign-in/sign-out procedures. The position offers a competitive wage and benefits package, with professional development opportunities and YMCA facility access.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience working with children is preferred.
• Moderate knowledge of the ages and stages of children.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to understand positive guidance and reinforcement techniques.
• Ability to react to emergency situations within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA.
• Ability to communicate with a wide variety of members and guests in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children in the Child Watch room and other areas; scan for potential harmful situations.
• Redirect children using positive reinforcement and redirection techniques within the YMCA guidelines.
• Engage with and welcome every child within the guidelines of the YMCA.
• Engage with parents in a positive and respectful manner.
• Ensure that all children are dismissed to the designated parent/guardian.
• Arrive no more than 10 minutes before opening and stay until the end of shift unless requested by supervisor.
• Clean and maintain the Child Watch area at the end of each shift.
• Attend and participate in open houses, program activities and events, staff meetings, and staff training as requested by supervisor.
