Job summary

Sanford Health in Fargo, ND seeks a compassionate Child Life Specialist to support pediatric patients and families in an outpatient setting. You will use developmentally appropriate explanations and play-based techniques to alleviate distress before exams and procedures.

Responsibilities include preparing children for visits, educating families, and advocating for emotional and developmental needs within the care team, collaborating with doctors, nurses, and social workers to ensure holistic

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, or related field is required.
• Completion of 600 hour Child Life internship is required.
• Two years experience with pediatric populations preferred; therapeutic setting experience desired.
• CCLS certification required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
• BLS certification required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Help children and families cope with anxiety, fear or stress related to medical visits, procedures or diagnoses.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers and other healthcare staff to communicate patient needs and coping plans to the care team.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, or related field

Completion of 600 hour Child Life internship

Minimum two years experience working with various age groups of children is preferred

Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is required or must be obtained within one year of hire

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of hire
