Job summary

Wesley Health Centers JWCH Institute, Inc. seeks a full-time Childcare Worker for the Women’s Residential Program in South Los Angeles/Compton area to provide child care for children while parents attend outpatient services.

The role includes coordinating care, maintaining safety, and supporting family activities within a therapeutic setting. The candidate should have an associate degree in child development, be a licensed SUD counselor or eligible, and bilingual English/Spanish.

Qualifications

  • Associates Arts Degree in Child Development.
  • Registered Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor: must be registered by NCCA-accredited agency (CADTP/CCAPP).
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with infants and children.
  • Knowledge of addiction, trauma, homelessness, and DCFS.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability and vaccination against COVID-19 as condition of employment.

Department Location: Solutions, Women's Residential Program-South Los Angeles

Classification: Full-Time

Position Purpose The Childcare Workers provides child care and care coordination for the children of men and women enrolled in Outpatient Substance Abuse Program in Compton, California. The Child Care Worker upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and wellbeing of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with Outpatient Program team members.
  • Provide childcare to infants, toddlers and school age children while mother and/or father are attending group therapy and individual counseling.
  • Ensuring the children have good hygiene and changing diapers as necessary.
  • Supervise and monitor the safety of children in their care.
  • Change the diapers of infants and toddlers.
  • Cleaning interactive areas throughout the day.
  • Preparing meals, bottles and snacks for the children.
  • Organizing activities and developing curriculum for older children.
  • Developing a schedule for the children to maintain throughout the day.
  • Keeping records of each child’s progress, interests and any problems that may occur.
  • Building rapport with the parents to ensure they understand the parameters of child care.
  • Caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with and caring for children.
  • Provide case management services to the children of clients enrolled in program.
  • Create a database of community resources for children and their families.
  • Facilitate an interactive group with parent and child on how to read to your child, listening to music and play games.
  • Work together with team to develop family activities such as reading time, board games, mealtime and other appropriate activities.
  • Assist with organizing 2-4 Family Events a year (onsite or offsite).
  • Coordinate and manage donations for participants of program.
  • Supervise the ongoing development and quality assurance of the child care program services in conjunction with the Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure organization’s adherence to all state, county and federal treatment standards and regulations.
  • Monitor the program and clients for safety, quality and zero tolerance to the presence of drugs and alcohol in or around the program and premises.
  • Discusses all client information only with appropriate program personnel when related to the care being provided.
  • Maintains confidentiality for all documents that contain patient identifier information.
  • Observes and respects confidentiality of information in regards to fellow employees.
  • Maintains standards of cleanliness, organization for work station, community room and other areas of use.
  • Completes addiction and cultural competency trainings effectively and efficiently, and other required trainings each fiscal year.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, mutual respect and compassion in dealing with others.
  • Initiates and presents positive solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrates effective working relations and works effectively as part of the team to facilitate the organization’s ability to meet goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to accommodate requirements or changing priorities in the workplace.
  • Observes department guidelines concerning absences and reports absences in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Observes department guidelines to conduct personal business during breaks and lunch hour.
  • Projects a positive professional image and adheres to organizational dress code.
  • Will work offsite as needed and in the community (walking or driving).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associates Arts Degree in Child Development
  • Registered Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor: Must be registered by one of the agencies accredited by the NCCA and recognized by DHCS, which include CADTP and CCAPP; and who must adhere to all requirements of the California Code of Regulations, Title 9, Chapter 8 and Title 9.
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with infants and children
  • Knowledge of addiction, trauma, homelessness, and DCFS
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability.
  • All JWCH, Wesley Health Centers workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Successful candidates for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process. Candidates should not present proof of vaccination until instructed to do so by the hiring department.
