Major Responsibilities and Duties

Professionalism

The Educators' Code of Ethics is set forth in Texas Administrative Code to provide rules for standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community.

Instructional Planning and Delivery

The provider works to improve instructional planning and delivery through activities such as:

  • Developing and implementing weekly/daily lesson plans following the classroom schedule.
  • Assisting each child to develop their fullest potential in social-emotional, physical, and cognitive areas.
  • Educating parents positively to support successful parenting skills.
  • Providing orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Managing inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment, and maintaining a neat/classroom environment.
Monitoring Student Progress

The provider monitors student progress by:

  • Implementing program objectives supporting developmental, behavioral, and academic performance.
  • Keeping informed of individual students' needs or issues.
  • Serving as a positive role model and supporting RISD's mission.
  • Supervising students inside and outside the classroom, including playroom, bus, and playground duties.
  • Conducting parent/teacher conferences as needed.
Classroom Management and Organization

The provider works to enhance the classroom and organization through:

  • Maintaining an active daily parent communication portal.
  • Keeping accurate student portfolios and records of developmental progress.
  • Ensuring accurate documentation for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Maintaining a sanitized, safe, and orderly classroom environment.
Qualities of Effective Child Care Providers

The provider demonstrates:

  • Competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with infants and toddlers.
  • Participation in at least 30 hours of annual training in early childhood and licensing standards.
  • Reporting suspected child abuse, neglect, or exploitation promptly.
  • Completion of licensing documents as required.
  • Participation in faculty meetings and staff development programs.
  • Compliance with regulations, including attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality.
  • Effective communication with students, parents, and staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise children at all times.

Equipment

Use of equipment such as wheelchair lifts, ramps, computers, audiovisual tools, and adaptive equipment.

Working Conditions

Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, with frequent interruptions, physical activity, and biological exposure. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
