Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a Community Associate to support licensing activities for child care programs in New York City. You will liaise with City and State agencies, providers, parents, and the public to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

The role involves outreach, technical assistance to help providers attain or renew licenses, and travel statewide for training and annual NYS Regulator’s meetings; all expenses covered by the agency.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Responsibilities

• Assist child care providers by liaising between City and State agencies, groups, parents and the public.
• Assist licensed providers in interpreting and complying with State and City Regulations.
• Instruct the public on filing a complaint about a child care program that appears unsafe, unhealthy or operating illegally.
• Coordinate outreach and provide technical assistance to child care providers to assist with attaining or renewing a license to provide services.
• Perform related case management and office support work in the review of required documentation from child care providers.
• Conduct presentations and workshops to community-based organizations, government agencies and the general public to promote the importance of selecting licensed Child Care options.
• Selected candidates will be expected to travel to Albany, NY for training and elsewhere throughout the State for an annual NYS Regulator’s meeting. Expenses paid by the agency.
