Job summary

GDIT in the United States VA McLean is seeking a Chief Systems Architect to drive modernization of mission-critical systems for a national security customer. You will shape technical strategy to transform legacy apps into secure, cloud-native platforms and directly influence mission outcomes.

You will lead multiple teams across cloud, data, API, and microservices modernization, ensure alignment with Agile, CI/CD, and zero-trust principles, and mentor elite engineers while briefing senior leaders

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• 15+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in a senior architecture leadership role.
• TS/SCI with Poly clearance.
• Proven experience guiding multi-disciplinary technical teams through large-scale modernization.
• Deep experience with cloud and microservices architectures (AWS GovCloud, Kubernetes, containerization).
• Strong background in data platform modernization and analytics platforms or distributed data systems.
• Proficient in Agile methodologies and modern CI/CD delivery.
• Ability to develop and brief complex strategies to senior technical and mission leaders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own enterprise architecture strategies guiding cloud, data, and services modernization.
• Lead and inspire multiple technical teams on modernization efforts.
• Evaluate technology tradeoffs and brief senior leadership on architecture direction.
• Oversee transformation of legacy applications into secure, scalable, cloud-native services.
• Ensure architectures align with Agile delivery, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and zero-trust principles.
• Collaborate with product owners, program leadership, and engineers to translate needs into architectures.
• Champion modern engineering practices and enterprise modernization standards.
