Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

The client is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as a strategic partner and operational leader to the Chief Executive Officer. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will provide enterprise-wide oversight and stewardship focused on long-term sustainability and mission success, ensuring operational excellence, quality of care, and accountable service delivery across existing and future program offerings.

The COO will lead all aspects of program operations, including behavioral health, substance use services, and residential support. This role will partner with the CEO and executive team to drive a unified multi-state vision, support program expansion and community impact, provide operational input for executing organizational strategies, and evaluate aligned growth opportunities. The COO will also maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, and collaborate with the CFO to develop and manage the annual operating budget, supporting financial accountability across program operations and service lines.

Required qualifications include 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health, human services, nonprofit healthcare, or nonprofit management, along with a bachelor’s degree. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in healthcare administration, social work, or a related field. The client is looking for demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-state operations with diverse programs and funding streams; strong knowledge of Medicaid, state regulations, and behavioral health service delivery models; and the ability to develop actionable, measurable operational plans while leading and mentoring multi-disciplinary teams with compassion, empathy, and resilience.
