Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA seeks a Chief of Staff for the STAR Directorate to advise senior leadership, set priorities, and drive operating rhythm. You will integrate cross-organizational activities, coordinate sponsor responses, and shape strategic directions to ensure timely, high-quality mission delivery.

Collaborating with PAD and PDAD, you will oversee communications, plan executive engagements, and align resources with directorate objectives.

Qualifications

• Active DOE Q-level or Top-Secret clearance required at hire.
• Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, business administration, organizational leadership, public policy, communications, or related field.
• Extensive experience resolving complex, high-consequence problems and driving execution across multiple organizations.
• Leadership experience with major scientific, technical, administrative and/or operational initiatives.
• Experience managing with strategic focus, setting priorities, balancing requirements, and building teams.
• In-depth knowledge of Laboratory programs, policies, and governance; understanding sponsor environment.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving with executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the PAD's principal integrator for STAR programmatic and operational activities.
• Coordinate responses to sponsor requirements across STAR staff and leadership.
• Organize STAR Senior Leadership Team engagements, including agenda-setting and action tracking.
• Develop and implement operating mechanisms, policies, and procedures aligned with Lab and sponsor needs.
• Oversee internal and external STAR PAD Office communications and messaging.
• Lead preparation for STAR executive engagements with briefing materials and stakeholder coordination.
• Shape STAR short- and long-range strategies with risk management and resource alignment.
• Represent STAR in senior-level engagements and build strategic relationships with sponsors and partners.
• Foster a collaborative work environment and cross-organizational teamwork across STAR and LLNL.
• Exercise delegated authority to advance STAR priorities and perform other duties as assigned.
