Job description

Location: New York, NY / Long Island City, NY

Industry: Telecommunications / Media / Technology

Reports To: Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

About the Opportunity

A highly confidential opportunity is available for a Chief of Staff to the Chairman & CEO of a major publicly traded telecommunications and media organization.

This is not a traditional administrative Chief of Staff role.

The individual will serve as a strategic operating partner and trusted extension of the CEO, helping translate enterprise priorities into action, drive accountability across the executive leadership team, and ensure the organization remains aligned around its most important strategic and operational objectives.

The ideal candidate is an experienced senior executive who has actually run a business, business unit, major transformation, or enterprise-level function and has demonstrated the judgment, financial acumen, executive presence, and operating discipline necessary to work alongside a CEO.

This person should be capable of stepping into a CEO, President, General Manager, or COO role in the future.

The Role

The Chief of Staff will operate at the center of the CEO's agenda, working closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, business unit presidents, and senior functional leaders.

This is a highly visible, enterprise-wide role requiring someone who can move seamlessly between strategy and execution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and operating partner to the Chairman & CEO.
  • Help the CEO establish, communicate, and drive the organization's highest-priority initiatives.
  • Act as an enterprise quarterback, ensuring strategic priorities translate into measurable execution.
  • Work across the Executive Leadership Team to create alignment, resolve issues, and maintain accountability.
  • Identify emerging business, organizational, and operational issues before they reach the CEO.
  • Challenge assumptions, surface risks, and bring clarity to complex business decisions.
  • Partner with Finance, Strategy, Operations, Consumer and Business Services, Human Resources, Communications, Investor Relations, and other functions to drive enterprise priorities.
  • Lead or oversee high-priority strategic and transformation initiatives on behalf of the CEO.
  • Prepare the CEO for executive leadership meetings, Board meetings, strategy sessions, and other critical engagements.
  • Establish clear follow-up, ownership, milestones, and accountability around CEO and ELT decisions.
  • Analyze financial, operational, customer, and market performance to identify opportunities and gaps.
  • Help drive organizational effectiveness and improve the cadence of executive decision-making.
  • Support strategic communications and ensure consistent messaging across senior leadership.
  • Step into complex or sensitive situations where the CEO needs an experienced executive capable of bringing structure, judgment, and urgency.
  • Take on special projects and enterprise priorities that require senior-level leadership and cross-functional influence.
What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will be operators first and strategists second.

You may come from a traditional Chief of Staff or CEO Office background, but you should have subsequently demonstrated meaningful operating responsibility.

Alternatively, you may currently be a senior business leader, General Manager, President, COO, transformation executive, corporate development leader, or strategy executive who has developed significant enterprise-level operating exposure.

We are particularly interested in executives who can demonstrate:

  • Actual operating experience — you have run something meaningful, not simply advised the people who did.
  • Experience leading a business unit, major function, transformation, strategic initiative, or complex enterprise operation.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including experience with P&L, budgets, business performance, capital allocation, or other meaningful financial responsibility.
  • Experience operating at the SVP/EVP level or equivalent within a large, complex organization.
  • Significant exposure to CEOs, Boards, and senior executive teams.
  • The ability to influence, challenge, and hold senior executives accountable without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Demonstrated success leading transformation, change, integration, growth, or organizational improvement.
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to quickly understand complex business issues.
  • Executive presence, communication skills, and credibility with senior leaders.
  • The ability to move comfortably between high-level strategy and detailed execution.
  • A track record of working across functions rather than operating exclusively within a single functional silo.

  • General Management
  • Business Unit Leadership
  • President / GM
