Albemarle County seeks a high-energy, strategic Chief of Police to lead ACPD and advance modern policing across urban and rural geographies. The role involves directing operations, budgeting, and policy aligned with community values and public safety goals.

The Chief will champion civilianization, officer development, and robust recruitment while maintaining strong intergovernmental relationships with Charlottesville and UVa police partners. Residency in Virginia is required.

Qualificações

• Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Police Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• Ten or more years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience.
• Five or more years of senior-level management, administrative, and supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency.
• Certification as a law enforcement officer through the Virginia DCJS within one year of appointment, and a valid driver’s license.

Responsabilidades

• Oversee strategic, operational, and administrative functions of the Albemarle County Police Department.
• Lead budgeting, personnel development, and policy formation aligned with contemporary policing best practices.
• Foster a healthy organizational culture with succession planning, retention strategies, and officer wellness initiatives.
• Collaborate with County leadership, regional partners, and university/police departments to coordinate public safety efforts.
