Job summary

The City of Baltimore is seeking a strategic, hands‑on Chief of Fleet to lead a large, citywide operation overseeing maintenance, fueling, and procurement for thousands of assets. The role drives modernization, zero‑emission initiatives, and data‑driven decisions to improve uptime and service delivery across City agencies.

Qualified candidates bring extensive fleet management experience, senior leadership capability, and a track record of managing multimillion‑dollar budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience
• Minimum of eight years of senior management experience in fleet management or comparable large-scale operations
• Experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets and large teams

Responsibilities

• Set strategic vision and performance expectations for a citywide fleet operation
• Lead senior staff and interact with City leadership, agencies, vendors
• Oversee maintenance, fueling, facilities, procurement, vehicle leasing, and Master Lease Program
• Ensure fleet readiness and 24/7 emergency response capability
• Manage a $75M+ budget, contracts, and financial controls
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, labor, and regulatory standards
• Drive innovation in fleet technology, EVs, charging infrastructure, and sustainability
• Use performance systems to improve uptime, costs, transparency, and outcomes
• Lead and develop a workforce of ~250 employees with a focus on DEI and service excellence
