Job summary

Harford County Government seeks a Director of Emergency Services to lead EMS, the 9-1-1 center, emergency management, and special operations, aligning resources with public safety priorities.

The role requires a strong track record in executive leadership, data-driven decision making, and collaboration with county officials, volunteers, hospitals, and state partners to ensure readiness and effective service delivery.

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in emergency services or related field.
• Five years of supervisory/managerial experience in fire or EMS.
• Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred; equivalent considered.

Responsibilities

• Executive Leadership and Department Administration.
• Oversee EMS operations, system capacity, staffing, and deployment.
• Direct 9-1-1 center operations and emergency communications.
• Direct emergency management and preparedness programs.
• Coordinate response, incident management, and recovery efforts.
• Support volunteer fire and EMS system coordination.
• Monitor laws and provide policy advice to leadership.
• Coordinate public information and emergency communications.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related field

Master's Degree preferred

Equivalent education or experience considered
