Job summary

AbbVie seeks an accomplished scientific and organizational leader to serve as Head of Molecular Discovery Technologies (MDT). This role defines strategic direction across DEL, protein NMR, mass spectrometry-based platforms, and emerging technologies to accelerate hit discovery and strengthen lead programs.

The leader reports to Target Enabling Technologies and helps shape portfolio-level strategies for Small Molecule Therapeutics and Platform Technologies, aligning data strategies and talent

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or related discipline.
• 10+ years in lead discovery and/or molecular discovery technologies.
• Strong background in medicinal chemistry and lead-discovery strategy.
• Experience leading scientific functions or platform teams in matrixed environments.
• Proven external impact via publications, patents, or presentations.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute MDT strategy to maximize portfolio impact.
• Lead MDT prioritization and resource allocation with high-value opportunities.
• Drive data strategies connecting experimental, screening, and computational insights with AI/ML.
• Collaborate with leaders across discovery functions to shape future approaches.
• Develop long-range MDT technology, talent, and infrastructure plans.
