Job description

Confidential Biotech | Stealth Mode

We are partnering with a well-capitalized, stealth-stage biotechnology company that is building a differentiated therapeutic platform with the potential to address significant unmet needs. Backed by experienced leadership and institutional-grade investors, the company is advancing its programs toward IND with a deliberate, milestone-driven strategy. We are seeking a Chief Medical Officer to serve as the senior medical and clinical leader for a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on severe blood diseases. This is a foundational executive role for a physician-scientist who can set strategy, establish medical governance, and represent the company externally with credibility and clarity. The ideal leader brings deep hematology expertise and proven drug-development experience in rare disease, along with the ability to guide early clinical strategy for differentiated precision medicines. You will help shape the company at a pivotal moment in the field as next-generation curative approaches move toward the clinic. The Company is primarily an on-site organization that fosters a collaborative, culture-driven workplace and embraces flexibility when needed to support its employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the overall clinical development strategy for the company's precision medicine portfolio in severe hematologic disease, aligning medical plans with program goals, regulatory expectations, and long-term value creation.
  • Lead translational strategy, clinical pharmacology planning, dose optimization, biomarker strategy, endpoint selection, and evidence generation to support clear go/no-go decisions and future development milestones.
  • Serve as the primary medical lead for interactions with health authorities, including preparation for IND submissions, early regulatory meetings, and rare-disease development discussions.
  • Oversee safety governance, medical monitoring, pharmacovigilance, and benefit-risk assessment to ensure strong patient protection and high-quality clinical execution.
  • Partner closely with Research, Nonclinical, CMC, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and future Commercial colleagues to ensure development plans are scientifically rigorous and operationally executable.
  • Build the external medical presence for the company through investigator engagement, KOL relationships, publication planning, medical education, advisory boards, and clear communications with the Board and investors.
Requirements
  • MD required; completion of residency and fellowship training in hematology or a closely related discipline. Board certification in hematology strongly preferred; pediatric hematology, hematology/oncology, or internal medicine with deep hematology focus will also be considered.
  • 15+ years of combined clinical and biopharma/biotech experience, including at least 5 years in a VP-level or above clinical development leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success leading clinical programs through IND filing, early-phase development, and interactions with FDA, EMA, or other health authorities in rare disease, hematology, or genetic medicine.
  • Strong command of clinical trial design, translational science, biostatistics, safety governance, and benefit-risk assessment in complex biologic or genetic medicine programs.
  • Credible executive presence with boards, investors, regulators, and scientific stakeholders, plus a track record of effective cross-functional leadership across Research, Development, Regulatory, Clinical Operations, Safety, and CMC.
Compensation & Benefits

The Company prioritizes the holistic well-being of its employees by offering a comprehensive range of health and wellness benefits. From medical and dental coverage to mental health resources and discounts on healthy living programs, it is committed to supporting the health and well-being of its team members and their families. The annual base salary range for this position is $409,275 - $553,725 USD. Actual pay rates are determined by multiple factors, including qualifications, the relevance of experience, education & credentials, subject-matter expertise, and internal parity.
